Who's Dan?
Dan (he/him) is an award-winning storyteller, juggler, and puppeteer who brings original tales to life for school-aged children (and adults!) through humorous, engaging, and interactive performances.
He started performing in schools as a teenager, after teaching himself to juggle. He later started practicing puppetry and writing original tales, and soon became an award-winning storyteller. Today, he works with experts to craft the educational dimension of his shows, developing his stories and characters with former teachers, principals and education behavioural consultants from across Ontario.
Dan’s first job off the stage was at an Easter Seals Camp in 2001, where he developed new stories that helped children & teenagers with physical disabilities (aged 6 – 17) participate in story creation with sound and movement. Since then, he has worked extensively with children and young adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities, and taught employment and life skills programming to young adults with developmental disabilities (aged 18 – 29), and at-risk youth (aged 13 – 29).
Since 2013, Dan has worked as a consultant for the public sector, helping non-profits improve the experience of their clients, staff, and boards. He has designed and implemented numerous educational workshops, capability-building initiatives, and conflict-resolution programs.
Dan serves his community as a member of several non-profit boards of directors in Toronto, as a mediator in the areas of family and worker-employer conflict, and as an administrative tribunal hearing officer.
Dan holds a B.A. from the University of Waterloo (Global Conflict Studies), and post-graduate certificates from York University and the University of Toronto (Mediation and Arbitration). Dan is a member of Storytelling Toronto and Storytellers of Canada.
Dan enjoys travel, lazy swimming, spaghetti & meatballs, reading non-fiction, camping, and not hitting himself with the juggling knives.
Dan was born in Wawa, Ontario, and raised in Wawa and Niagara. He is currently based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
